Conclusion to the Museum:
The Biltmore Estate has remained the largest privately owned residence in America for over one hundred years and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1963. The home has been so well preserved and restored, with original furnishings and duplicate art and wallpaper that it provides a realistic glimpse into the Vanderbilt’s family life during the Gilded Age. Though depressions and lack of preservation have threated its timeless beauty, George Washington Vanderbilt’s descendants have kept his French inspired châteaux in the country as beautiful and self-sufficient as the day it was built. The Biltmore has not only become a tourist staple that boosted the economy of Western North Carolina but also an entire brand (Carley & Rennicke, 2000).
